Supervisor: Head Librarian
Description:
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Deputy Librarian to join our library team. The Deputy Librarian will assist the Head Librarian in managing and overseeing the library’s operations and services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in library science, excellent organizational and leadership skills, and a passion for promoting information literacy and intellectual growth.
Essential Functions:
- Assist the Head Librarian in planning, developing, and implementing library policies and procedures.
- Manage day-to-day library operations, including circulation, reference services, and collection development.
- Supervise library staff and coordinate their activities to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
- Assist in the selection and acquisition of library materials, including books, journals, and electronic resources.
- Provide reference and research assistance to library users, including students, faculty, and researchers.
- Develop and deliver library instruction sessions and workshops to promote information literacy skills.
- Collaborate with other departments and academic programs to support research and teaching initiatives.
- Stay current with trends and best practices in library science and information management.
- Participate in library committees, professional organizations, and community outreach activities.
- Assist in preparing reports, budgets, and grant proposals as needed.
Essential Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in library science or any other suitable field
- Familiar with Koha Library Management System along with MARC21 and RDA for bibliographic description.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an academic or research library
- Strong knowledge of library systems and technologies, including integrated library systems and electronic resources
- Strong commitment to providing excellent customer service
- Knowledge of current trends and issues in library science and higher education
- Experience with library instruction and information literacy programs is a plus

- Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to develop and articulate a strategic vision, build collaborative relationships, and lead change initiatives
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and foster a culture of inclusivity and innovation
- Experience managing budgets, allocating resources, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of a department or program
- Commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement, reflective practice, and evidence-based decision-making
