Sahmakum Teang Tnaut Organization (STT) is an urban and housing rights NGO that was founded in 2006, “Teang Tnaut” means “Palm Leaves” and palm leaves are used by poor communities, to build roofs, and walls for their houses. This name was chosen to forever remind STT that its work serves the poorest members of society. STT started as a small NGO that focused on technical upgrades in poor communities but over the past decade, many communities have been affected by development, land transfers, and evictions. As a result, STT has since grown to produce community maps, research, and advocacy in order to achieve its goal of helping poor communities realize their rights to land and housing.
STT is seeking a part-time Advocacy and Research Advisor with professional expertise and strong abilities to support our research team, ensuring high-quality outputs and broader dissemination of STT’s products to the public.
Main responsibilities, Tasks and Activities:
- Research: Support the STT’s research team to ensure the quality of research by being involved in the entire process, including developing questionnaires, methods, and proofreading reports.
- Advocacy Strategy: Collaborate with the Advocacy Officer, Program Manager, Program Advisor, and Executive Director to develop advocacy strategies for land issues, particularly for communities facing eviction or at risk of eviction.
- Training: May be requested to provide research training or coaching to staff as needed.
- Other Duties: Perform additional support tasks as required.
Experience and Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of experience in leading research.
- Degree in a relevant subject matter.
- Extensive knowledge and substantial professional experience in social research.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to adhere to deadlines and demonstrate flexibility.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English; proficiency in Khmer is an advantage.
