Research Method and Sampling
The target audience for the programme, and therefore for this research is as follows:
Note: The “Sok San Family” TV programme has been aired on TV and together with the digital series continues to do so online, it will be important to ensure respondents have not been exposed naturally to the content.
The following approach has been identified for the experimental method, described below:
Step-by step
It is important to ensure that all respondents, including those in rural areas, have the necessary digital skills to self-administer an online survey.
The target audience for the programme, and therefore for this research is as follows:
- Aged 15-30
- Male: Female (50:50 ratio)
- Urban: Rural (40:60)
- Social media users (have engaged with social media content at least once a day)
- Must not have watched any episodes of “Sok San Family” TV programme and “Ban Der Ban Deng” digital series or engaged with related online content
- Respondents are randomly assigned to one of two groups, a control or a treatment group. A.Sample size needs to be minimum 400/group* at survey right after exposure
- Each group is exposed to a TV programme; the treatment group will watch content produced by BBC Media Action, the control group will watch a similar TV programme on a different subject
- A post exposure follow-up survey will be administered to both groups shortly after exposure, a second identical survey will be administered 1-2 months after exposure to assess sustainability of effects found and to capture additional behavioural outcomes in the period between two measurements.
*An important aim is to minimise attrition between stages in order to preserve the robustness and composition of the sample(s) in subsequent phase(s) and avoid compromising the research through differential dropout. Please detail expected attrition, steps to mitigate this, and advise on the starting samples necessary to ensure 400 valid responses per group (800 in total) at first post-exposure survey from the people who have watched a minimum threshold of content (~80%) and provided a valid post exposure survey response.
