With the AAS research agenda growing rapidly, the program is seeking
an experienced research leader to oversee effective implementation of
the program’s integrated research agenda focused upon increasing
agricultural productivity, increasing income, improving nutrition,
improving social-ecological resilience – including increased capacity to
innovate and adapt, and reducing gender inequity. We pursue this agenda
taking a systems approach to aquatic agricultural systems, and using
participatory action research as a keystone of our work - aiding
communities, NGOs, government agencies and other stakeholders to
directly assess their own governance context, and to build a
constituency for policy and institutional reforms.
Key responsibilities:
To lead the team of scientists working on this extensive research
agenda, the program is seeking a Science Director. Reporting to the
Program Director, the Science Director will have overall responsibility
for effective integration and delivery of the program’s science agenda,
including leading program level science planning and review processes,
and ensuring that effective systems of quality control are in place.
Essential skills and qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent degree in relevant social or natural science discipline
- Eight or more years of relevant experience in applied research
- Excellent English language writing and speaking skills
- Experience of using systems approaches to agricultural research
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across disciplines
- Ability to manage multi-partner, cross-regional, and multi-disciplinary teams
