As part of the strengthening of its programme, WWF DRC is looking for a Chief Operating Officer in order to:
- Provide leadership to the development, adaptation, implementation and monitoring of the country operations strategy and annual plan in DRC and ensure its alignment with the regional strategy;
- Direct, manage and ensure full coordination between the Support Services Units (Logistics, Finance, IT and Human resource) and the conservation programmes;
- For all relevant units, ensure effective implementation of WWF DRC business plan so as to meet agreed targets, and performance standards and encourage adaptive management in achieving this;
- Ensure the establishment of an effective annual work plan for operations and a high quality budgeting process following the Annual Plan and Monitoring System and the Strategic Plan and Monitoring System and take the lead on their implementation.
Location: The position is based in Kinshasa – Democratic Republic of Congo
Duration: Two years, renewable.
Main responsibilities:
Reporting to the Country Director, the Chief Operating Officer’s major duties and responsibilities will include:
- Leading the WWF DRC programme office support services team, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of the Operations, Financial and IT strategic objectives in compliance with the WWF standards, policies and procedures;
- Coordinating the development of annual plans, budgets and work plans for the support service team;
- Ensuring that WWF DRC is fully complying with all legal requirements in the country and that its status provides the required legal and tax basis to operate in country;
- Supporting fundraising efforts by ensuring the development of high quality proposals in line with the existing budgeting policy and donor requirements;
- Monitoring and evaluating the operations activities in tandem with the conservation programmes;
- Developing quality risk management plans for WWF DRC and overseeing their implementation and monitoring.
What you need:
Required Qualifications
- An advanced degree in management, Finance, Business Administration or international development or a relevant field;
- At least 10 years professional experience in a leadership role, with demonstrated success in managing teams and office operations, and managing of complex multi-donor programmes;
- Proven knowledge and experience of the not-for-profit sector, preferably of environmental non-government organizations, governance and regulatory compliance.

- Proven leadership skills with excellent capacity to manage Finance and Operations Teams;
- Ability to inspire and motivate muti-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams;
- Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating strategic plans;
- High level negotiation, facilitation as well as interpersonal and influencing skills and the capacity to develop and maintain strong relationships within WWF and in the business and not-for-profit communities;
- Superior oral and written communication skills in English and French;
- Adherence to WWF’s values, which are: Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging.
