QATAR FOUNDATION invites applications for the "WORLD INNOVATION SUMMIT FOR EDUCATION AWARDS 2010". These awards will recognise and celebrate education projects and activities that have, over a period of time, demonstrated real and positive impact within the theme of Transforming Education: Investment, Innovation and Inclusion. This theme is intended to encourage the submission of proposals that have had a significant impact on transforming education through sustainable investment strategy, innovative processes and technologies and effective policies and practices promoting inclusion and diversity.
QATAR FOUNDATION intends to award six concrete achievements under this single theme of Transforming Education: Investment, Innovation and Inclusion. The six prizes, each worth 20,000 US dollars, will reward concrete action-oriented educational initiatives that have had a transformative impact on societies.
ELIGIBILITY
Eligible applicants are individuals or teams of individuals working in all sectors of education, all types of organisation and from any part of the world that can be considered to have made outstanding educational achievements.
For the present article, we understand by: (i) "All sectors of education": individuals or teams of individuals working in any sector of education, including, pre-primary, primary, secondary, tertiary, vocational training, further and higher education, special needs education, education for people with disabilities, informal learning, distancebased, non-formal and lifelong learning. (ii) "All types of organisation": individuals or teams of individuals working in a wide range of organisations operating in any education sector, including colleges, universities, academic networks, schools consortia, civil society and community organisations, governments, international agencies and private sector companies working in the field of education. (iii) “Any part of the world”: people in all parts of the world.
Previous recipients of 2009 WISE Awards are not eligible to apply. Likewise, other people involved in the projects and/or activities recognised by the 2009 WISE Awards are not eligible to apply for the same project or activity.
The Awards will celebrate six concrete educational initiatives that have had a transformative impact on societies. As detailed in the Regulations, applicants have to show how their educational activities have delivered on the following 10 criteria:
1. Educational Transformation: the overall extent to which the educational activity has transformed an aspect of education that has also had societal impact;
2. Sustainable investment: the extent to which the educational activity is funded in a sustainable way to ensure its continuing viability;
3. Innovation: the extent to which the educational activity is innovative in design and/or practice, thereby transforming traditional means of educational delivery;
4. Inclusion and Diversity: the extent to which the activity includes a diversity of beneficiaries and has enhanced equality of access to education;
5. Quality of Learning: the extent to which the transformation has improved the quality of learning;
6. Scalability: the extent to which there is evidence that the educational activity has the potential to be scaled up effectively, or has already been replicated at a larger scale than originally piloted;
7. Partnership and Participation: the extent to which the educational activity has established effective partnerships and includes participation from beneficiaries and stakeholders;
8. Monitoring and Evaluation: the extent to which there is evidence of effective ongoing enhancement of the programme through regular monitoring and also evidence of formal internal or external evaluation procedures;
9. Dissemination: the extent to which the organisations involved are already effectively disseminating and sharing their educational practices with other practitioners;
10. Clarity of proposal: the extent to which the proposal is clearly intelligible and conforms to the requirements of the application process.
