The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) is a not-for-profit organization focused on Canada’s relations with Asia. Our mission is to be Canada’s catalyst for engagement with Asia and Asia’s bridge to Canada.
The grants program, funded through the proceeds of an endowment established by the Government of Canada, supports research and informed discussion on Canada's relations with Asia. We offer the following fellowship programs: post-graduate research, distinguished, media, and the McArthur Fellowship.
Post-Graduate Research Fellowships
APF Canada is committed to fostering the next generation of Asia Pacific researchers and analysts. To this end, it offers up to four one-year Post-Graduate Research Scholarships (PGRS). Successful applicants will have a background in Asia-related research in Asian studies, political science, economics, history, business, international relations, or related humanities or social science program...
Distinguished Fellowships
APF Canada appoints a number of Distinguished Fellows to the roster of experts who are associated with the Foundation's work. We typically select individuals who have made significant contributions to Canada-Asia relations in one of the following areas: scholarship, public policy, business, diplomacy, arts and culture, and civil society...
Media Fellowships
The Media Fellowship program, supported in part by Cathay Pacific Airways, offers up-and-coming and established journalists the opportunity to spend time in Asia researching and preparing stories. The program aims to help Canadian journalists become better informed about this dynamic part of the world in order to write and broadcast insightfully on Asia and the Canada-Asia relationship...
McArthur Fellowship
The John H. McArthur Distinguished Fellowship is an initiative established to honour John H. McArthur, former Chair of the APF Canada Board of Directors. Supported by the creation of a $2-million fund and a growing number of generous donors, the Distinguished Fellowship is awarded to an accomplished Asia Pacific thought leader from business or academia who will conduct actionable research and elevate the work of the Foundation...
