In collaboration with our partners, our aim is to provide support
and deliver prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT)
services, which empower mothers and children across the globe. Every
year, we continue to form new partnerships with community focused
organisations; who strive to alleviate the devastating effects of the
HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The Positive Action for Children Fund is an integral part of ViiV
Healthcare's commitment to communities affected by HIV and AIDS. In
2009, the company committed to invest £50 million ($80 million) in the
Fund over ten years.
Since its launch in March 2010, the Positive Action for Children Fund
has committed £10 million on 117 projects in 21 countries. Our partner
organisations demonstrate their commitment and dedication to addressing
mother-to-child transmission of HIV; through innovation and by
maximising local resources made available through various health
systems.
Such work is closely aligned with UNAIDS' Global Plan towards the
elimination of new HIV infections among children by 2015 and keeping
their mothers alive and works toward achieving the Millennium Development Goals set to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health.
The Positive Action for Children Fund currently provides grants to
support diverse programmes globally and offers a Technical Assistance
programme through our partners to support smaller community
organisations. Through the fund, these organisations can continue to
support affected communities and mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS on
children and their families. The hope is to ensure that those
communities deliver sustainable projects that reach individuals at risk
from or coping with HIV infection.

How 2013 proposals should be targeted
This call for proposals for larger grants from the Positive Action
for Children Fund is focused on non-governmental and community-based
organisations that can deliver change at the community level thanks to
their links with or representation of affected communities.
The work should focus on one or more of the areas of PMTCT that we
have prioritised for this call for proposals. Please make sure your
proposal is relevant to at least one of the following five themes:
- Community interventions addressing loss to follow-up in PMTCT
Working with communities to address and overcome causes of loss to follow-up of PMTCT services; objectives should demonstrate how community interventions can improve loss to follow-up of women, children and partners to the local PMTCT services - Community advocacy for gender equity in education and health
Projects by and for the community should promote women’s and girls’ access to education and/or health services; objectives must demonstrate how improvements in access to education and/or health can deliver educational or health outcomes for women and girls - Preventing unintended pregnancies
Improving women’s knowledge of and access to SRH services, projects should enable women living with HIV to exercise their right to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services - Community intervention to keep HIV negative women negative
Targeted primary prevention at a community to level to ensure women who are HIV negative stay negative; with special emphasis on women planning to have families, pregnant women and new mothers - Early infant diagnosis
By using community developed interventions and testing to promote continuing care of infants and young children of HIV+ parents, projects should reduce the numbers of infants who go undiagnosed or who diagnose too late for successful care and treatment interventions
Your project should consist of new work that has not been previously
funded; it can include projects transferred to a new location(s) and/or
include the expansion of a recently tested model or pilot. You must make
a compelling case for your project; please therefore see the review
process template and Call for Proposals Guidelines to understand best
how to target your project.
Good Luck with your submission and thank you for your interest in the Positive Action for Children Fund.
